What is a Fight Director?
A SAFDi Fight Director is an individual who has been extensively trained and qualified to choreograph and direct stage combat in performance. A qualified Fight Director brings to the workplace an understanding and practical application of all the constituent parts that make up the art of stage combat.
All SAFDi accredited Fight Directors have tertiary dramatic qualifications and/or are experienced professional performers who have received formal training and examination in a great number of unarmed and weapons systems. This sets up a cross section of experience that is important, as these skills, when combined with textual analysis and combat history, are what enable a Fight Director to put choreography into a dramatic context; whether it be theatre, film, television or other mediums.
